Length Scan System

Scope:

A Length Scan log optimization system required laser scan sensors to retract for logs to pass underneath on an as needed basis.  A robust machine was required as it was placed in the middle of a log deck.  In addition to being robust, the machine required a high degree of positioning accuracy and repeatability.

The designed machine implemented a servo driven rack and pinion design for quickly moving the sensor carriage.  The sensor carriage was then driven against precision contact points for position accuracy and repeatability.
